1922 Duesenberg Model A

Beautifully Restored with Excellent History since Day One!

Having conquered the automobile racing world with a big victory in Indianapolis, the Duesenberg brothers then began focusing a little more on selling automobiles. The first major production car was the Duesenberg Model A. It was powered by a SOHC inline 8 cylinder engine capable of 88 horsepower and displacing 260 cubic inches. One of the more innovative features were the four wheel hydraulic brakes, among the first production cars to be equipped. Many coach builders at the time were involved with Duesenberg and a wide variety of body styles were available, from open cars to fully enclosed 7 passenger.

The story of this Model A "Doctors Coupe" begins when it was purchased new by Dr. Beals. His new Coupe would be one of the rare Fleetwood body Duesenbergs, a name more commonly associated with Cadillac. He would retain the car until 1931 when he sold it to a relative of his, Mr. McGarvey, it would be Mr. McGarvey who would have the pleasure of enjoying the car for an incredible 44 years. Always keeping the car in immaculate condition both cosmetically as well as mechanically, he would often be seen touring with it all over the east cost of theUSA, choosing to drive his Duesenberg to any ACD club functions he could attend. Upon his passing in 1975, the car was acquired by a large collection which would ultimately perform some light cosmetic restoration work and the car would receive its ACD Category One certification. Next the Doctors Coupe would be acquired by a noted collector of classics who clearly had a great eye for unique and special automobiles. Recognizing the great originality of the car but wanting a more show ready example, they set about a careful restoration that would still retain a lot of the original elements of the car. The mechanics were all given attention, the interior having previously been restored required little work but the dashboard, chrome trim everything was brought back to as new condition. With the car remaining still incredibly original the doors still close with a gentle "click", the body is tight and void of any squeaks and rattles. It has the unmistakable feel of a great original, an element which is difficult to describe but easily recognizable. All while presenting as a beautifully restored car ready for the show field. A truly special early example of one of the most famous brand names of early motor car history.
