1928 Austin Chummy

The Original Car that put Britain on the road!

 The Austin Seven is often credited with accomplishing for Britain what the Model T did for America, made it possible for everyone to afford an automobile. Built of smaller proportions that the Model T, the Austin Seven was perfect for navigating the small European roads and by 1927 William Lyons saw the commercial potential for the cars and various coach builders began building bodies for the chassis.

This particular Seven is what is known as a "Chummy". Many say that the name comes from the small interior and you would have to be "chummy" with your passenger! The Chummy is the touring model of the Austin 7, looking very much like a small scale Model T touring car. Setup with 4 seats, two door body style and a convertible soft top, this Chummy is powered by the Seven's 747cc inline 4 cylinder engine rated at 10hp with 3 speed transmission, plenty of power for its day and also considering it weighs just 794 pounds. The car has been nicely restored in a light shade of yellow with black fenders, black interior and matching black soft top. The car is a remarkably fun car to drive and enjoy. It starts quickly with the electric starter and has the same driving style as a modern car, clutch, brake and throttle pedal with an H pattern shifter. This Chummy is a very interesting and very unique classic which can be driven and enjoyed at a modest cost.
