1935 Packard 1203 Sedan

Incredible Original Never Restored "Time Capsule

The Packard Motor Company relied on making luxurious cars that were highly refined, fitted with luxurious coachwork, and powered by proven engineering. This belief had placed them among the elite in the Auto industry during the early 1900s. As the world entered the Great Depression, the Packard Company was one of the few that managed to survive. In fact, they outsold all of their competitors combined. They had entered the Depression in excellent financial health and they emerged with strong financial footing. But the post-depression era had them worried, as the number of potential buyers had dwindled when fortunes were lost. Production had dropped nearly half each year when compared with the previous, from 1929 to 1933. In response to the decline, Packard continued to make improvements each year.

The twelfth series Eights embodied a new, sleeker look with raked radiator and sloping hindquarters, while beneath the skin there was a strengthened chassis frame. The front doors now hinged from the rear for easier access while the interior boasted a new, Art Deco-inspired instrument panel and seats upholstered in either broadcloth or leather. The engine too was revised, boasting a new aluminium cylinder head enabling the use of a higher compression ratio. Maximum power of the Super Eight was now 150bhp and the top speed over 90mph. Three wheelbase lengths were available, the shortest (132") frame being reserved exclusively for the Model 1203 five-passenger sedan. In total, only 1,392 Packard Super Eights found buyers in the 1935 model year. All Packards are now highly prized by collectors, and remain extremely useable classics today possessing good performance and braking for this era.

This Super Eight sedan is equipped with a smooth running straight eight engine with manual transmission. The car is in absolutely beautiful original condition, a testament to having been lovingly kept and exceptionally maintained by its previous owners over the years. The car starts and runs incredibly well, so well in fact at every stop sign you'll find yourself revving the engine to ensure it is still running!!  Finished in its original factory applied black paint which considering is 77 years old, shows incredibly well. The interior is still wearing the original beige broadcloth in equally incredible condition considering the age. This Packard also comes with the matching bumper mounted trunk with fitted storage drawers. The incredible lines and classy demeanour of this car are set off by the dual fender mounted spares with side view mirrors and Packard wire wheels with period correct wide white wall tires. Since acquiring this car we have had it inspected by a few Packard aficionado's and the consensus has been that this is an incredible, original car and all feel they haven't seen a better original one. The factory applied paint is complete with signs of the original lead work showing through. Opening the door and you are greeted by the sight and aroma of original broadcloth. The car to this day remains a time capsule of how 1935 Packards were designed, assembled and finished. Most certainly a car which deserves to remain in its original condition, to be used and enjoyed for many years to come just the way it is. Where would you ever find another one like it, in this unrestored original condition as presented here?
